Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Launches Mi Yone SLCB Teller/Kiosk
The leading financial institution, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank has launched two products, Mi Yone SLCB Teller and Mi Yone SLCB Kiosk on Wednesday 27th June 2018 at Adonkia community in Freetown.
Mi Yone SLCB Kiosk is a low cost digital outlet offering full-fledged banking services to the unbanked and underserved communities while Mi Yone SLCB Teller unleashing mobile banking services to the unbanked and underserved markets.
In his opening statement, the SLCB Managing Director, Idrissa Alooma Kamara maintained that for so long, our people have had limited access to financial banking services adding that only one in every five Sierra Leoneans has a bank account. “This regrettable status quo is about to change as the industry is now compel to render automated services”, said the MD.
He stated that the bank has been positioned for superior service delivery through automation and expressed gratitude to his predecessor for a job well done. The MD reported that SLCB is safe and sound with strong commitment to sound banking practice and mentioned that SLCB is on track to lead this digital age in the coming months.
Mr. Kamara further deliberated that the newly launched banking products are exclusive and impressive and encouraged existing customers to provide their necessary information like mobile number, email address among others to enjoy digital services provided by Mi Yone SLCB Kiosk/Teller. He promised to deliver unique customer experience and emphasized that digital is SLCB new way of life.
Delivering keynote address, Bank Governor for SLCB, Dr. Patrick Conteh expressed sadness on the appalling situation of exchange rate and emphasized that there is heighten need for the inclusion rate in Sierra Leone. The launching of these products speaks volume in addressing the issues that the President outlined in his manifesto to ensure financial services are improved in terms of efficiency. He commended SLCB for the actualization of the idea President Bio spelt out and recalled the strong commitment he made in February this year to expand financial services in the country.
Dr. Conteh described the low penetration rate as an opportunity to expand services to meet the growing demand of people and demonstrated commitment to support effort in developing financial services landscape. “BSL is developing it Stand box Framework to encourage digital service initiative”, said Dr. Conteh and highlighted that the Stand Box Framework would enable to protect the interest of customers. He recognized the risk associated with financial institutions and updated that BSL is currently reviewing the Financial Services Act.
The Chairman, National Commission for Privatization, Umaru Napoleon Koroma stated that SLCB is taking lead in the banking world because it is indeed a Lion and described the launching event as timely.
According to the NCP Chairman, the product is a significant contributor to the country’s economic growth and expressed hoped that SLCB will spread the facility nationwide. He discussed that they will collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to actualize the dream of the New Direction and called on fellow Sierra Leoneans to be proud of SLCB and trust their banking operations.
The Headman for the Adonkia, Jeffery L. Kargbo thanked SLCB for choosing his community and encouraged SLCB management that the indigenes of Adonkia are very much appreciative of the new development. He assured the management that security to protect Tellers is paramount because the initiative is a test case for them.
Launching the products officially, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Patricia Lavallie described the occasion as another milestone not only for SLCB but also for the ministry and mentioned that the ceremony was a means to deepening the country’s financial system.
“The Government will continue supporting financial institutions”, said Madam Lavallie adding that the ministry is very pleased over the inclusiveness of the product. She congratulated the Board and Management of SLCB for the initiative and she formerly opened the Kiosk.
