A cross section of parliamentarians speaking at the concluded symposium organized by the International Organization for Migration, with the theme ‘Strengthening and Expanding Representative Democracy’, have called for constitutional reform in the country.

The majority of the Law makers who attended the symposium explained that certain clauses entrenched in the constitution were hampering their work in the way of migration and citizenship in the country.

Hon. Dr. Brima Morie Kamanda, alias Senator in his contribution expressed his disappointment and  frustration on section (77) (Ij) of the constitution, further noting that this section of the constitution barred any Law maker to vote and speak against any motion or Bill laid before the House for enactment or ratification .

He continued that he has once threatened by former President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah by the same clause when summoned to State House for ratification. Hon. Dr. Kamanda noted that against this background called for a constitution will be dangerous clauses in the constitution will be expunged or repealed to meet the dynamics of our society.

The call made by Hon. Dr. Kamanda was re-echoed by many of his colleagues emphasizing that it is never too late to engage in such venture. It clearly came to light during the symposium that even legislators of the ruling All People Congress Party (APC) called for a constitutional reform. However, the facilitators of the symposium, including Dr. Abdul Rahman Dumbuya, Dr. Osman Gbla, Dr. Abu Bakarr Kargbo and Charles F.
