Will Bio Sell SLPP Like Kabbah?
It has become a custom among Sierra Leoneans to always castigate their outgoing Presidents during transition period of betraying the party and not working in their interest as a result of the transfer of power from the incumbent to the opposition party.
In the 2007 Presidential election, supporters of the then opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) were blaming late President Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabbah (in photo) for handing over power to Ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma.
The SLPP key stakeholders and commoners were describing President Tejan Kabbah who was brought from the United Nation (UN) of betraying the party. In fact that was the reason the SLPP ignored the aspiration of the former UNIDO Boss Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella to be their 2018 Presidential flagbearer because he also came from the UN and described the SLPP as not a UN garage.
The SLPP went further to not only accuse President Kabbah of not supporting former Vice President Solomon Ekuma Berewa to win the 2007 Presidential run-off election but they also indicted him of voting for Ex-President Koroma under the All Peoples Congress (APC) umbrella.
By then, members of the APC were hailing President Kabbah of making a right decision while the SLPP supporters were crying foul and swearing the late President of acting against the party that gave him power.
Today, the baton has been changed and we are now witnessing a situation wherein supporters of the APC are lashing Ex- President Koroma of betraying them, exposed them to danger and funny position for the fact that he signed the final result which gave the National Electoral Commission (NEC) the mandate to announce President Julius Maada Bio as the President elect.
President Koroma was seen as a supreme being in the midst of the APC but today has turned their enemy because they were expecting him not to sign the final result and endorsed President Bio but since President Koroma is a peace loving citizen, he went ahead and endorsed the result because he doesn’t want to destroy our hard won peace we have enjoyed for over a decade.
That brings me to the one million dollar question if President Bio will be cry down or accuse of selling the party and its members for nothing when his term of office comes to an end?
Sierra Leoneans have realized that, in modern democracy, a one party is never allowed to rule a nation for three consecutive terms but must give chance to the opposition party with the majority to take over governance but the ruling SLPP must believe that what goes around comes around which means nothing last forever except God Almighty.
