No Violence at Zimi Bye Election

The three main  political parties All Peoples Congress (APC), Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), and the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) were yesterday invited at the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communication  to explain to the media and all Sierra Leoneans about the  recent concluded bye election that was held in Zimi last weekend. Two political parties were able to be at the press conference and they were the APC and the PMDC.

The Minister of Political Affairs and also the publicity secretary of the APC told journalists that there was no violence at the election but there as some amount of threat and intimidation that occurred but nobody was hurt.

He also went on say that on the day of the election, everything was going on peaceful until 2 pm when a jeep arrived at the pooling centre and that just after the jeep left, they saw some youths moving from one place to another without any reason and they started singing native kamajor songs and later said that they were going to burn down the vehicle of the Ministers present in the district but that nothing like that ever happened he relayed to media men.

The Chairman of the PMDC Mohamed Bangura also confirmed that until 2:pm on the pooling day, the election was peaceful further saying that just after 2:pm, youths from nowhere broke forth and started causing panic and barricaded the place and started uttering threatening remarks that  brought about the whole disturbance.

The secretary General of the APC Hon Victor Foh also congratulated the SLPP for winning the two bye elections as according to him, politics  is all about competition but that it should be played according to the rules of the game.

Superintendent Koroma who represent the AIG Western Area said the Sierra Leone police monitored the two bye elections in Kenema and Zimi revealing that in Kenema the police arrested 13 people (ten men and three women) for carrying false voter IDs and that the matter is being investigated and charged to court in zimi two people were arrested one was arrested for carrying a merchant and the other was arrested for using fake ID Card they are under investigation.
