FIU Intensifies Terrorism, Money Laundering, Human Trafficking fight
Director of Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Ahmed B. Kamara, has expressed determination to heighten the fight against terrorism and money laundering in Sierra Leone.
Kamara made the statement yesterday at Miatta Conference Centre in Freetown when he was making PowerPoint presentation at the ongoing 2018 Financial Year budget discussion.
The Director appealed to the entire nation to join the fight against the menace because he said, money laundering, and terrorism needed a concerted effort adding that FIU is not only the coordinating agency for all public institutions but it also gives guidance to Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in an effort to combat the abnormality.
“We have conducted a national risk assessment to look at the danger facing the country,” said the Director and re-echoed the ongoing analysis to create plan that will address terrorism and money laundering.
He described corruption, child trafficking, and terrorism as destroying our human rights; adding that they will continue to engage the public to understand the danger of money laundering and terrorism.
He said as a new organization established in 2013, they have funding challenge adding that, however, Government has tried to uplift the institution with subventions subsequently.
