In Promoting Integrity and Accountability EPA-SL Takes the Lead
In promoting Integrity, Accountability and Transparency, the Environment Protection Agency Sierra Leone has taken the lead in becoming one of the first institutions in the country to sign an Integrity Pledge for staff of the institution. The signing ceremony which took place at their head office on Thursday the 17th of August 2017 was witnessed by staff members of the Anti- Corruption Commission including the Commissioner, Adi Macauley, Senior and junior staff of the Environment Protection Agency including the Executive Director, Madam Khadijatou Jallow and members of the fourth estate. Speaking on the importance of the Integrity Pledge, the Executive Director, EPA-SL, Madam Khadijatou Jallow noted that, for the country to develop, we have to come together in eliminating all aspects of corruption both in our personal and public lives which she said has been eating deep into the fabrics of our nation. She maintained that her institution is taking this bold step she believe that best practices such as integrity, accountability and transparency are key to moving this country forward and that is why she would stop at nothing in ensuring that every member of her staff is committed to giving the best service to the nation. ‘’I will ensure that we internalized and implement the integrity pledge fully’’, she assured adding that the interest of Sierra Leone is always her priority. She concluded by expressing her profound condolences to the families of the August 14th mudslide and flood victims and prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in eternal peace.
In his statement, the Commissioner of the Anti- Corruption Commission, Adi Macauley commended the EPA for the strides they are taking in eliminating all forms of corruption from their institution. He noted that the agency has been a reference point for the commission throughout his time in the ACC as they always ensure best practices among their staff. He therefore encouraged them to continue leading by example adding that the country can only develop when we eliminate as a country, all forms of corruption. He concluded by admonishing all staff of the agency to adhere to the integrity pledge they have signed to as his Commission will always be monitoring their activities.
