For Debts Incurred Smart Mobile Shut Down

Sources close to this medium has intimated that Smart Mobile, one of Sierra Leone’s telecommunications company has been shut down for incurring accumulative electricity debts to the tune of  Le 102,000,000 owed to VENTEC,  an energy producing company.

According to our sources, the afore said company was contracted by Smart Mobile for the supply of electricity since the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) is incapable of providing reliable power supply to run the company’s business effectively.  Smart Mobile, our sources went on has been owing accumulated debts to VENTEC since the contract started between the two until it became clear that they can no longer pay up their debts to the company which resulted in the latter taking legal action against the management of  Smart. It was the outcome of the said action that the court ordered the closure of the company until they are able to pay up the debts owed.

It could be recalled that a little over two years ago, the company started its operations in the country. It is alleged that since they started operations, the company has owed numerous debts including both private individuals, contractors as well as government institutions such as the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), the National Revenue Authority (NRA) and other tax fees owed to the country that resulted in the owners fleeing the country because of their inability to meet the financial obligation they have incurred during their course of operation.
