As APC Government Drops Toll Road Bombshell
Heavy Trucks And Trailers To Pay Le 780,000 And Le973,000
The ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party through the Project Management Unit of the ministry of Youth Affairs has finally released the prices of the Wellington –Masiaka Toll Road in which heavy trucks and trailers are to pay Le, 780,000 and Le, 973,000 respectively. These prices according to many Sierra Leoneans are excessively exorbitant for them to bear.
It could be recalled that the government of Sierra Leone and the China Railway Seventh Group signed a 25 year contract for the extension of the Wellington- Masiaka road to a four lane which will be pre-financed by the CRSG. The contract further stated that the CRSG is to collect tolls for the road in order to recoup their money.
This arrangement according to many citizens is an exploitative one because they were never well informed about what entails in the road project. According to them the government has no regard for them when it comes to matters that affect them the most.
This medium spoke with some drivers and some Union members about their take on the entire arrangement of the road and they categorically told us that the prices are very exorbitant and exploitative and that it is going to be very difficult for them to be paying such huge amount of money.
They however called on the government to look into those prices in order to have minimal prices to ensure full cooperation them.
