Presidential Recovery Team Launches Sanitation Project

The Presidential Recovery Team last Wednesday launched a cleaning project in Calaba Town, east of Freetown.

Team leader in Calaba Town, Sensi Magnus Kamara informed communities in Calaba Town that government has put in place stiff measures to address the alarming filth in the country, pointing out that the Freetown City Council and the waste management company MASADA will distribute bags to all households to deposit garbage.

He stressed that government is fed up with the littering of garbage in the capital city for which the project is initiated but cautioned that each household will have to pay for each bag the sum of two Le. 2.000.

Magnus Kamara furthered that byelaws have been prepared for compliance, condemning the indecent habit of throwing rubbish on main roads, streets and drainages.

He said anyone caught throwing rubbish in prohibited areas will pay a fine of Le.500. 000 or serve a two month jail term at the maximum Correctional Centre at Pademba Road. He reminded the people that garbage can lead to a spread of contagious diseases.

The random deposit of garbage, Kamara observed, is becoming rampant in especially the capital city, Freetown, describing the practice as unhygienic.
