Edward Mohamed Turay presented his Letters of Credence to the President of Cyprus His Excellency Dimitris Christofias at the Presidential Palace in the capital of Nicosia.
The High Commissioner and his two diplomatic staff members – Counsellor Sahr Prince Demba and Information Attaché Sorie Sudan Sesay, were driven in a state convoy from the Cleopatra Hotel to the Presidential Palace, where they were given a Guard of Honour in a very colourful and exciting ceremony.
“Your Excellency, please allow me to present to you Letters of Credence by which the President His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has appointed me to be the High Commissioner of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Cyprus as well as the Letter of Recall of my predecessor. Thank you, Your Excellency,†said the High Commissioner as he handed over the letters to the President.
Present also at the ceremony was the Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianoy, Chief of Protocol Ioanna Maliotis and the Under Secretary to the President as well as Sierra Leone’s Acting Consul to Cyprus Theocharis Economides.
Later after the ceremony, the President held closed-door talks with the High Commissioner, but details of the talks were not revealed.
However, when the two men finally came out of the closed-door talks, they were full of smiles – before the High Commissioner and his staff were led out of the Palace by the Deputy Chief of Protocols Petros Nacovzis who again escorted them to their hotel in a state convoy.
According to the High Commissioner, the talks were centred around the bilateral relationship between the two countries as well prospect for economic growth in Sierra Leone.
The High Commissioner had earlier presented a working copy of his credentials to the Chief Of Protocol Ioanna Maliotis, at the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as protocols demands.
Earlier, the High Commissioner and team were received at the Larnaca International Airport by the Chief Of Protocol Ioanna Maliotis of Cyprus Foreign Affairs and Sierra Leone’s Acting Honorary Consul to Cyprus Greek-born Theocharis Economides.
