Sierra Leone Brewery Pre-launches New Guinness Stout
On Wednesday 26th October, 2016, the nation’s only brewer, Sierra Leone Brewery Limited, launched its new design Guinness Stout produced here by the brewery.
The MC calling the event to order spoke humorously about the current austerity measures adopted by the government. He narrated a short story about how before now if one walked into a bar and was asked where one worked and replied at the Sierra Leone Brewery one was laughed at. Now with the company on sound footing, one feels proud to say one works for Brewery.
In his speech, the SLBL Supply Chain Manager, John Richardson, thanked all the workers for their hard work and the changes made to the new product.
Desmond George, the SLBL marketing manager said the internal launch of the new Guinness Stout product was for the SLBL staff and management. He narrated the history of how Guinness Stout was patented in 1759 by an Irish man, Arthur Guinness from Dublin. He continued that in October 1967, the first bottle of Guinness Stout was bottled in Sierra Leone.
He talked about the rebel war and the Ebola outbreak and the adverse effects they had on the company’s business in Sierra Leone. However, he maintained that come, 2017, there will be a big change in the company’s operations. He disclosed that the formal launching of the product will be done on Friday 28th October, 2016 at the Bintumani hotel.
During the interlude that followed, the audience was entertained with acrobatic performances.
In his speech, Willy Alphonse Ngana, the SLBL Managing Director said that today happens to be the day that SLBL is starting a different game adding that the game has changed.
“Today we started with the art machine and our partner has given us strong support from Nigeria; today we have received strong support from our partners,” he stated.
He spoke of the innovation that led to the creation of the new product and asked the audience to applaud the supply chain team.
“Guinness represents the Black, as we have the power” Willy Ngana,” said. He added that the new Stout product has changed the market and accelerated sales.
“The management team is committed; we are fighting the right battle and we are winning the battle as we deliver high standard and quality beverage,” the SLBL managing director said confidently.
He continued that they are going to supply the market and supply everyone and provide for everyone. “Our responsibility is to deliver accordingly to the nation,” he said and spoke about the need for discipline.
He praised the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Sorghum Farmers Association, Dennis Jusu, and everybody for their resilience. “Think Black, Drink Black Guinness,” he ended.
The Managing Director’s speech was followed by a video showing the ways of pouring Guinness, sampling of the product, signing of the Charter Board and a photo session. A musical performance was done by the producer of the hit single: ‘Sen’ am go do’n’ and the rapper Shine De God Son. Food and drinks were then served to climax the event.
