MP promotes community hygiene development

The campaign on Attitudinal and Behavioural Change for sustainable community hygiene development (ABC) has taken a new approach when the Member of Parliament for constituency 104 in the Western Urban, Hon. Alpha Baba Tunday Lewally on 1st October this year donated Eight (8) Tricycles worth over one hundred and twenty million Leones (Le: 120,000,000) to the East end Social Entrepreneurs Sierra Leone, (EaSE-S/L) at a ceremony held at Fourah Bah community field, in Freetown.

Presenting the donation to organization, the MP that the donation is in conformity with his election promises to promote and launched the business Entrepreneur as well as a business entity that would comprise of young talented graduates from various institutions in his constituency.

He expressed appreciation to the Sierra Leone Football Armature Association who have also created impact in the community and praised Moa Wharf Youth organization, Kuso Town Base, drivers as well as the Market Union Association pointing out that government alone cannot afford all that is needed within their limited budget.

LMP Lewally said the donation is geared towards empowering youths as well as promote health and sanitation exercises in the community through the house to house garbage collection.

Chairman of the occasion, Afeigu Abass Kamara said in his opening remarks that the donation ceremony is timely and highlighted the need to promote health and sanitation in the their community admonished members of the organization to put hands on the wheel to achieve their goal.

Sidney Campbell spoke on behalf of the organization, and expressed hopes that the community will come to their aid during the cleaning exercises but also informed that each household is expected to pay the sum of three thousand Leones (Le. 3.000) to complement the organization in the area of maintenance of the tricycles and fuel.

He rubbished the perceptive held by individuals that social clubs mean  youth gangs who join cliques’ called on all to youths to emulate the god example demonstrated by their organization.

Several speakers made statements including Alhaji Muctarr Williams who also expressed his dissatisfaction in youth violence especially cliques that he said are creating bad blood in society, thanked the Minister of Internal Affairs Parlo Conteh for his swift intervention in addressing youth related problems.

He said, Sierra Leone is a discipline country and pledge his support to the organization at all times.

A representative Imam from the Jamatul Baitul Rahman, Mohamed Sillah noted that, the negative attitude of certain Sierra Leoneans undermines the successes of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on the fight against Attitudinal and Behavioural Change (ABC) in the country.

A Police officer, Amadu Kamara from the SLP) also express similar sentiments and frowned at the increasing number of youth smoking cannabis sativa in the community.

A community stakeholder,  Alhaji Abdulrahman Bah commended the Member of Parliament (MP)for his  developmental strides in the community noting that the MP spends ten (10) percent of his wealth on charitable support community development in his Constituency and described the donation as very significant.

Constituency Chairman, Citta Kamara said in his contribution that young people should emulate the good example of the following citizens, the Deputy Minister (I) of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Gibril Sesay, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Ade Macauley amongst several others who have contributed towards the development of the constituency.

Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Ade Macauley noted that in any developing country the human resources capacity lies on the ability of the youths and recalled his youth age and how he was determining to become productive and a role model in society.

The keynote address was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (I) Dr. Gibril Sesay who recited Quranic verses followed with prayers for the sustainability of the organization and described the donation as laudable.
