Government Disappoints Flood Victims

This medium has been following the living condition of the last year’s  flood victims who were forcefully transferred from the National Stadium to Mile Six in the western rural district when it discovered that the people are now sleeping together in the middle of the bush with wild snakes like Cobras, sacred pythons, puff-adders which have left many of the occupants with no option but to leave the vicinity at night to sleep in the open air so that they could spot snakes coming in to their corrugated pan body houses.

In a recent visit to the said unfavourable environment, the victims did not only shed tears but they also complained on the way and manner they have been abandoned by Government authorities who take them to the designated place to languish with poverty and misfortune. They informed this press that when they were temporally placed at the Stadium main Bowl they were told by the then Outreach Coordinator in the office of the Government Spokesman, Mr. Abdulai Gbaratay that the new home for flood victims will be provided with all basic facilities including  food, schools, religious services, good water supply, electricity and reliable health centre but to their greatest surprise everything just take the opposite direction for the fact that even a single toilet was not built for them except they have to run  into the nearest bushes to answer the call of nature.

They recalled the launching ceremony of the flood victims account by the current Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Victor Bockarie Foe where building materials and huge sums of money were donated by business houses including Shankerdas and Sons, Leocem and individuals but to their amazement no cement was used to build concrete houses.

They informed the public that the four hundred thousand Leones given to each family to start up their life did not take them anywhere and as a result many of them have preferred to return to their various homes where they were evicted by the heavy down pour of rain in the name of God.

They called on Non Governmental organizations and individuals to rescue them because according to them they have been disappointed by the most trusted Government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and they appealed to the general public to remove them from that snake kingdom so that they cannot only stop sleeping together with dangerous snakes or stop begging in the street but they will also  equally feel inclusive in society.
