ACC commissioner ends maiden tour in the region

As a clear demonstration of his steadfastness to rid the country of corruption and corrupt practices, the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Ady Macauley ,ESQ  has said  in Bo on his familiarization tour  in the  Southern Region that the Commission has a zero tolerance approach to the fight against corruption .

Edifying  civil society , journalists and MDAs at the WAYS conference hall at Gbaiima Road, Commissioner Macauley said that the fight against corruption is a challenge, because corruption takes different forms and shapes across all sectors in Sierra Leone  and therefore needs  strong leadership to  eradicate it.

Elucidating on the importance of democracy, the Commissioner stressed that   the tenets of good governance entail quality education, good health and sanitation, the rule of law, political cohesion, human rights etc. These goals can only be achieved where there is transparency and accountability in both public and private sectors. He also maintained that if these measures are adopted by all there will be an effective and efficient public service delivery which in turn will yield dividend towards development.

The Commissioner told his audience that he has only one hammer to kill both Tigers and Flies i.e grand and petty corruption which is responsible for the under development of Sierra Leone. He emphasized the importance for all and sundry to collectively join in the national fight against corruption reiterating that he alone cannot win the battle against corruption.

Earlier, Commissioner  Macauley and his entourage comprising the Director of  NACS, Nabillahi-Musa Kamara ,the Director of Admin/ Human Resources, Desmond Johnson and  the PRO Alhassan Kargbo  met with the Resident Minister, the Provincial Secretary ,the Deputy Mayor Bo City Council  and the Deputy Chairman Bo District Council to enlist their support in the fight against graft . He also stressed on the issues of maladministration and his determination to close the gaps for corruption opportunities within the public sector.

In another engagement with the judiciary, Commissioner Macauley expressed similar sentiment.

In all the engagements, Commissioner Macauley informed stakeholders about the ‘Pay No Bribe’ (PNB) project and the National Anti- Corruption Strategy which serves as the national strategy in the fight against corruption and admonished all Heads of MDAs to operationalize  the Integrity Management Committees (IMCs).
