Statement On Recent Fraud Allegations
Freetown, Sierra Leone – Further to recent news articles regarding Plan International Sierra Leone (Plan), the Organisation wishes to issue this statement.
- Plan International has a Zero Tolerance policy towards fraud. When certain discrepancies became apparent relating to its operations in the Bombali District, Plan referred to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police for thorough investigations to be conducted. These investigations had commenced prior to the recent newspaper publications and are still ongoing.
- By a letter dated 17th of February 2015 from the Kunsho community of Makari Gbanti Chiefdom in Bombali District, Plan was asked to rehabilitate the well referred to in the said newspaper articles. Plan had expended money on the project and only became aware of the discrepancy regarding the well project when SALWACO brought it to our attention that they were working on the same well. As Plan is co-operating with SALWACO and The Anti- Corruption Commission in investigating this matter we cannot divulge more information at this time.
