Young Professionals Applaud Pres. Koroma’s Confidence in Young People
New ACC Commissioner says he’ll not only be fighting corruption but hoisting a flag for the young people of this country
Members of The Young Professionals group have at a late lunch held at the Cube Restaurant celebrated the appointment of Ady Macauley as Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) following his approval by the House of Parliament and swearing-in ceremony at State House.
The group also hailed His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma for living up to his promise of empowering young people, citing Macauley’s appointment as a key case in point.
Chairman of the group, Sulaiman Kabba Koroma Esq, congratulated the new ACC boss on behalf of members, and thanked President Koroma for his confidence in the young professional to head the country’s anti-graft commission.
“To appoint Ady Macauley, as young as he is, to head a very important office as the ACC is a testimony of President Koroma’s commitment to empower young people. Ady’s appointment calls for celebration by all youths in this country,” said Koroma, who doubles as Board Chairman of the National Revenue Authority.
In what is regarded as the biggest Cabinet reshuffle in the country’s political history, President Koroma appointed about 40 Sierra Leoneans to various positions, most of them young professionals.
Koroma appealed to friends and family members to support the new Commissioner with their prayers as “the task ahead of the young man is very challenging at such a sensitive institution”.
“Fighting corruption is never easy, the challenges are huge,” noted Koroma. “Ady needs our prayers to ensure that he succeeds, please don’t forget him in your prayers.”
Responding to the compliments, Ady Macauley registered his appreciation of members of The Young Professionals for the support and congratulatory messages since his nomination was announced to the day he was finally sworn in.
He thanked President Koroma for selecting him “amongst the many others who are equally qualified for the job”, describing it as a true manifestation of the President’s promise to ‘die’ for the youths.
“As a young man I will not betray the confidence reposed in me by the President; this is an opportunity for us to contribute in the transformation of this country. I will not only be fighting corruption but hoisting a flag for the young people of this country,” said Macauley.
He said his vision for the country is to build an Anti-Corruption Commission that will contribute to the development of the country, infusing integrity in governance and public service in line with the Agenda for Prosperity.
“I am committed to fighting corruption; to me there is not going to be a distinction between grand corruption and petty corruption, corruption is corruption,” he noted.
Whilst appealing for the support of members of the public and his close friends, he asked that they help him fight the big fight by not begging him for impossible favors.
“Corruption is corruption; I ask you all to join me in this fight by not calling me for favors, by not calling me for things that I cannot do because I will not do them,” he cautioned.
Ady Macauley was until his new appointment the Chief of Prosecution at the ACC where he started working in 2011.
He is described by his colleagues as the “Messi” of the ACC due to his commitment to his work, fighting graft in Sierra Leone.
The Young Professionals is a registered company by guaranty, established in 2014 at the height of the Ebola outbreak by young Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life with an objective to join the fight against the deadly Ebola virus. The group adopted the Police Training School Ebola Treatment Centre where food and non-food items were delivered on the release of every batch of Ebola survivors.
