Over Chinese Bullying of Timber Exportation …
Timber Importers Blast Chinese Exploitation
Over 500 Sierra Leonean women engaged in timber logging at the weekend organized a consultative meeting at the Bamoi Luma Market in Kambia District on the near monopoly the Chinese have had in the exportation of timber abroad.
Addressing community stakeholders and the media, Chairperson of the aggrieved timber exporters in Port Loko and Kambia districts, Madam Mabinty Kanu, expressed dismay over the bullyboy attitude of Chinese investors in the exportation of Sierra Leone timber.
The chairperson asserted that the Government of Sierra Leone should focus more on using the Local Content Policy (LCP) to empower Sierra Leoneans rather than give too much priority to Chinese investors for the exportation of timber.
According to Madam Mabinty Kanu, the three companies in charge of timber exportation are bonafide properties of Chinese investors.
Chairman Allan Barrie, who is President of Sierra Leone Timber Association, alleged that they have made several efforts to drawn the attention of Government to the dominance of Chinese investors in timber exportation but were not treated with the seriousness the issue deserves.
We are still following development on the issue with regards the full implementation of the LCP by Government which seems not to be working in favour of Sierra Leoneans as earlier promised by the Koroma administration.
