DIF-SIL constructs schools for the disabled and orphans
The Disabled International Foundation Sierra Leone (DIF-SIL) has constructed a school for the disabled and orphaned children at Lungi Kasonah in the Port Loko District, north of Sierra Leone.
In a snap interview with the Founder and Executive Director of DIF-SL, Princess Imambay Kadie Kamara, she stated that over the years access to education continued to be the lot of disabled persons and orphans in the country.
She observed that education is the ornament for any disabled or orphan to compete in life with and that she was ready to make it available to them.
Princes Imambay explained that the school is specifically meant for disabled and Ebola orphans in order for them to get equal educational opportunities.
The Pan Africa Princess also noted that stigmatization and provocation continue to be a very big challenge that has prevented many disabled and orphans from school with little or no action being taken by authorities to correct the situation.
She said many of the schools the disabled persons attend are far from being disable friendly with no special transportation to take them to their various schools on time which she described as a daily challenge for them.
She stated that the newly constructed school will be disabled friendly with all necessary learning materials and equipment to make them comfortable.
Princess Imambay Kadie Kamara said her organisation paid for the construction of the school and also provides housing support and proposed mechanical workshop for six disabled youths in Lungi aimed at getting them from begging in the streets.
She said it was time for the National Commission for Persons with Disability and the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues to work hand in glove to improve the lives of persons with disabilities nationwide.
