President Koroma still confident of his ministers
Notwithstanding the series of corruption cases levied against some ministers in his government, President Ernest Koroma has a healthy respect for his ministers and has recently made this known to them.
According to highly placed State House sources, the president is confident of the men and women serving under him, and that he has every intention of keeping them in his administration.
Some press reports had been insinuating that ministers of government are in a jittery state because of the recent sentencing of Dr. Tejan-Koroma and President Koroma’s decision of relieving Afsatu Kabba as Minister of Fisheries Marine Resources. The fact that there has been a case against a few of the ministers has nothing to do with the President’s respect for his cabinet ministers.
The adage that one bad fish spoils the rest certainly seem to be the truth when it comes to the present situation in the government of President Koroma and his ministers, but that should not be the case.
There are hard working ministers who though facing constraints as a result of the present situation in the country, have made a mark in their work. Madam Zainab Bangura, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is an example of a hard working personality. She continues to fly Sierra Leone’s high in the midst of other nations and has excelled in portraying the rebranding image of Sierra Leone as an investor friendly country.
The Information and Communications Minister Alhaji I. Ben Kargbo, the doyen of journalists in Sierra Leone and the most popular minister is another example of a successful personality in the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma. The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mr. Mohamed Koroma is also making a mark in his charismatic though unorthodox approach in confronting the problems in his ministry.
Minister of Works Alimamy ‘Petito’ Koroma, a personality of great respect among the general populace in the country is also a personality who has brought laurels to the Ernest Koroma government through his hard working and patriotic drive in re-branding a former moribund ministry into a new administration.
The Defence Minister Major (Rtd.) Paolo Conteh is also making strides in his ministry and as the first ever to hold the full staff of responsibility in the defence ministry, he has played a significant role in making the military ship shape and worthy of national honour.
The quiet, unassuming but result oriented Minister of Tourism and Culture the great Hindolo Sumanguru Trye is also a minister who has gained respect both in the eyes of the head of state as well as among the general populace in the country. Sumanguru Trye continues to maintain a no-nonsense approach to his work and this as today ensured great changes in the Tourism and Culture Ministry.
There are several indicators showing that ministers in the present government are working and that they are working in the interest of the nation.
