Government to Establish Permanent Settlement for Flood Victims
The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh, has emphasized government’s commitment to erect permanent structures for all flood victims in Freetown.
Mr. Foh made the commitment on Tuesday, 22nd September, 2015 at the National Stadium during the launching of the Flood Response Account number.
Saluting victims of the monumental disaster, VP Foh maintained that President Koroma was very sad over the devastating flood that had not only displaced thousands of people but also resulted to loss of lives and properties.
He encouraged Sierra Leoneans both at home and abroad to deposit their cash support in the newly established bank account at Sierra Leone Commercial Bank with account number 1076619 for the purpose of giving relief assistance to our disaster-stricken people.
“We are finding permanent solution to the problem by relocating all flood victims from disaster prone slums to more conducive places,” said VP Foh and he cited Kroo Bay, Culverts, Congo Cross Bridge, Moa Wharf, Big Wharf as being among the disaster prone from where victims must be relocated.
He informed that government has already acquired about one hundred acres of land at Six (6) Mile near Waterloo and six hundred (600) acres at Grafton Village to quickly erect permanent structures and relocate all victims.
He came to his conclusion by appealing to all organizations and individuals to continue supporting the response process.
