Why the hell over Yumkella membership?
I wonder why our main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) keeps causing so much noise over the membership of somebody who has aspired to become flag bearer of the party, Yumkella’s decision to aspire for the flag bearer position already manifests glaringly his tremendous love for the party, so, why all the fuss about his registration and membership card?
All SLPP would have done was to internally and quietly settle such a triviality by simply making Kandeh Yumkella a registered member of the party if he was not. That would have taken SLPP less than a day to accomplish and have that matter settled instead of washing the dirty linen in public. The SLPP should be causing noise over more serious things than the registration card of Yumkella.
Such blatant disunity displayed by SLPP can tempt many right thinking Sierra Leoneans to come to the conclusion that the party is not yet serious about getting back to power and that can dampen the enthusiasm of many potential supporters.
Besides, it is my view that the SLPP’s continuous hue and cry over Yumkella’s membership is a gross manifestation of ingratitude to Yumkella’s biological father, Paramount Chief Yumkella who was one of the founding members of the party. Is it not very unreasonable on the part of the party to border the son of a founding member with membership protocols of a party he inherited from his father? Is that the best way of bringing more people into the party to win the 2018 polls?
I am beginning to suspect that some supernatural forces have bewitched SLPP to remain in permanent disarray and that there is need for divine intervention and spiritual deliverance of the party. Otherwise, a once peaceful party cannot just become suddenly aggressive with members locked in protracted palavers. Here is a party intending to get back to power but remains in constant disunity.
It could be recalled that the same disunity between Charles Margai and Solomon Berewa immensely contributed to the party’s unexpected defeat in 2007.
