For The Sake Of Peace Citizens Want Meeting Between Bio & EBK

Citizens across Sierra Leone were much happier upon receiving information from the current Chairman of ECOWAS, Umaru Sissoco, who is also the President of Guinea Bissau that former President Ernest Bai Koroma had consented to meet with the Sierra Leone President Bio to enhance a sustainable peace and development. In actual fact, Sierra Leoneans believe that former President Koroma is not only a man with good record of peace, which gave him the potential to govern the country for consecutive two uninterrupted terms, but he is also blessed with wisdom, skill and power to talk to his own people and they listened to him with respect.

In that regards, citizens of this nation are calling on President Bio to use his military expertise meaningfully and not to only accept the proposal of EBK to meet with him upon his return from his election and peace mission in Nairobi Kenya, but to welcome him as his elder brother in one country and one nation, so that their millions of followers or supporters could believe that the two powerful leaders have displayed basic signs of unity and togetherness. Everybody in the country will emulate them as not only icons of peace or symbols of nationalism, but people will adopt their union as an effort to bring the political, ethnic and regional divided in the nation.

“But if the two great leaders continue to distance themselves, as when the former President Koroma, who was the Leader and Chairman of the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) and majority key members of the party refused to attend the Bintumani Three Conference, which was organized to build and strengthen national cohesion. But the one million dollar question now is, what was behind EBK and his party’s refusal to be part of the Government organized peace conference.

It could be recalled that after the said conference, President Bio was hosted by the Station Manager for 98.1 Radio Democracy, Madam Asmaa James, when President Bio told the world that he was not a friend to former President Koroma and he further stressed that they don’t need to be friends. Such a statement from a sitting President has the potential to deepen dispute and division among the poor and vulnerable people. Truly, Sierra Leoneans were listening to the President with the hope that he would have used 98. 1 at that very moment, as a suitable platform to preach peace and encourage citizens to live together as one people in one country, but to the greatest surprise of peace loving citizens, President Bio watered down the expectation of the people by becoming so angry that he could not send out the right messages of peace and national unity, which he was trying to achieve at the end of it all.

According to views and opinions of many people, former President Koroma didn’t only remain quiet, but he never did anything to provoke violence or unrest in the country. That is the reason many people in Sierra Leone, Africa and the wider world still trusted EBK as one of the peace loving citizens like his predecessor, late President Ahmed Tejan Kabba.

Many are of the view that it will be better if President Bio would have emulated the exemplary leadership of President Ahmed Tejan Kabba in terms of peace building and national cohesion. However, citizens are appealing to President Bio, as the Commander in Chief and Fountain of Honor, to do all what he can to bring the nation together and ensure that there is peaceful co-existence between citizens.
