Resident Minister Challenges PC and Reinstates Sacked Speaker

The Resident Minister North, Alie D. Kamara, is reported to have overturned the decision of the Paramount Chief of Diang Chiefdom, Koinadugu District, Sheku Magba Koroma, to illegally depose his Speaker, Mohamed Jawara.  (Photo: Resident Minister – Alie D. Kamara)

In an exclusive interview in his office in Makeni, the Resident Minister described the Paramount Chief’s decision as a direct contravention of the Chieftaincy Act of 2009. He noted that the Paramount Chief never notified the chiefdom committee to investigate the matter between him and the Speaker as is the procedure and his decision to unilaterally dismiss his Speaker without proper justification and without going through the right procedure is not in line with section 25 sub section 2 and section 27 sub section 1 of the Chieftaincy Act.

Mr. Kamara furthered that the unwarranted sacking of the Speaker caused him to summon the Speaker, section chiefs, the Member of Parliament for constituency 043, Honorable Kusan Sesay, and other stakeholders in the chiefdom to probe into the circumstances leading to the unlawful dismissal of the Speaker.

The Resident Minister continued that after the investigation, he came to the conclusion that PC Magba Koroma had no justification to remove his Speaker. “I therefore decided to reverse the decision and reinstate the Speaker as I am a man who believes in justice,” Kamara stated, concluding that PC Sheku Magba Koroma was deposed during the regime of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) but was reinstated by the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC).
