Finda Konomanyi condemns violence against women
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Finda Diana Konomanyi has joined concerned Human Rights Activists worldwide including a large number of women in Sierra Leone to express her dismay and concern over the spate of crimes against women, especially teenage girls in various parts of the country and called on chiefs and other authorities to help address the situation. Madam Konomanyi made this plea while presenting four elected Paramount Chiefs to President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at an inauguration ceremony, held at the Makeni City Hall, Bombali District, Northern Province. The Local Government Minister underscored the importance traditional leaders in national development and urged them to enforce bye-laws in their various communities to ensure peace and tranquility.
The persistent reports on alleged barbaric crimes perpetuated against Hannah, a teenage girl at Aberdeen beach and her compatriots in other parts of the country have attracted people from all walks of life, calling for the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators.
Recent media reports also spoke of a woman found dead in a mysterious circumstance in the vicinity of the Wusum Playing field in Makeni, Bombali District.
