Presidential Aspirant Steps Down
One of the aspirants for the presidency of the Sierra Leone Maritime Union, Augustine Kamara, is reported to have declined, opting to remain as an employee of the Sierra Leone Shipping Agency.
According to information gathered, Kamara declined the presidential race after a letter written to the Sierra Leone Shipping Agency by the Maritime Union demanding his resignation from the agency if he wanted to vie for the union’s presidency. Kamara reportedly decided to quit the race to maintain his job with the Shipping Agency.
Meanwhile, Kamara has reportedly been replaced by an Insurance Staff, Sorgoh Lamin Bangura who is being widely criticized for not being a trade unionist.
It has also been reported that the Sierra Leone Labor Congress has set up an interim body that will control the affairs of the union until a new executive is established following the dissolution of the former executive headed by Augustine Kamara.
