Accused – Sulaiman Kebe in land scam
Subsequent to Lands Ministry’s inquiry vis-à-vis lands leased to the Kebe family, facts so far discovered indicate that Sulaiman Kebe, the eldest of the Kebe family, is in utter violations of laws in the leasing of land.
Leaks are that he (Sullaiman), over the years, has subleased a land found situated and lying at off Kissy Bye-Pass Road, Shell Company, and as a result, depriving Government of its needed revenue generation.
They say the Kebe family was issued on lease, the Kissy Shell Company land for 14 years – 1990-2004, but has vehemently failed honoring conditions as stipulated in laws relating to the leasing of Government lands.
This, according to the Minister of Lands, Musa Tarawally, has seen him left without option, but renders the leased land default as by law stated.
The lease, Musa Tarawally said, did not mandate the Kebe family to sublet or assign the land to anyone without the due approval of the Lands Ministry.
That since the period of the lease 1990 – 2004, no development has taken place on the land which, according the Minister, convinced Lands Ministry officials as one of the reasons to render the lease default.
Facts are that Sulaiman Kebe has for years been subleasing the land in question to Drivers Union, and was collecting payments without the consent and authorization of the Ministry of Lands.
Findings are that the membership of Drivers Union has written a strongly- worded letter to the Ministry of Lands, utterly and unavoidably distancing themselves from any form of fraudulent activity by any member of the Kebe family as the case may be.
Even though the lease expired in 2004, facts are that there has never been any extension applied for, neither has an extension made by the Lands Ministry to authenticate and legitimize the use of the land by the Kebe family anyhow.
Revelations are that apart from the letter of offer issued the Kebe family, there has been no conveyance prepared and registered legally to validate the lease title for the years 1990-2004 at all.
This and other violations by the Kebe family have left the Lands Minister without any option, but to officially terminate the lease in the interest of Government and for national development.
Unconfirmed information states that Sulaiman Kebe attempted to persuade the Lands Minister to abuse his office by helping him convert the land to his personal property, which in the laws of the country could have resulted to fraudulent acts by both the Minister and Sulaiman.
It is also revealed that the Kebe’s are having another land under lease that was housing the defunct “Kebe’s Insurance Company”, but is as well in default of laws as conditioned by title lease, which they say, Sulaiman also wanted the Lands Ministry to convert for him to his personal property.
Mohamed Kebe was contacted but declined to make any comment; rather, he referred such to his elder brother, Sulaiman Kebe, who also was contacted but could not be reached for comment on the allegations.
Letter written to the Permanent Secretary of the Lands Ministry by Drivers Union is therefore published verbatim.
