Presidential Nominees Assure Parliament

Six presidential nominees have assured parliament that if approved, they will serve Sierra Leone to the best of their abilities and in accordance with the laws of the country.

They gave the assurance on Tuesday, 7th July, 2015, while responding to interview by the Parliamentary Appointment Committee.

Among the six nominees interviewed were two Prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Reginald Sydney Fynn, Miatta Samba and a State Council, Fatmata Bintu Alhadi, who have all been nominated by President Koroma to serve as Judges in the High Court and Appeal Court. The other three nominees were, Jacob Elvis Quee, appointed member, Local Government Service Commission, Honorable PC Alimamy Lahai Mansaray, appointed member, National Insurance Company and Momoh Cifoe Koya, nominated member, Sierra Leone Postal Services.

Lawyer Fynn who was appointed to serve as Appeal Court Judge told the committee that the country’s judicial system is in dire need of dedicated and committed manpower to help conclude the many long-standing cases in our courts. He attributed the delay in cases to overloaded case files, failure of witnesses to appear and testify in court, failure of litigants to rely on counsels and the too many other commitments of Lawyers. “With confidence and commitment, the legal system will work effectively,” Fynn remarked.

Miatta Samba who was appointed to serve as High Court Judge reminded the committee that the current workload in the judiciary requires young, energetic and dedicated people to ensure fast compilation of judgments and rulings.

The nominees, having gone through the appointment committee, will later face the entire House of Parliament for approval after which they will officially take up their respective offices.
