Sierra Leone Women Organization in The Gambia formed

“Coming together will make us one solid rock family” Says:- Haja Saidata Sesay

The first meeting of the newly formed Sierra Leone Women Organization (SLWO) in The Gambia, with the Motto:- UNITY, COMPASSION and DEVELOPMENT has been held under the dynamic leadership and Vision of Ambassador Soulayman Daramy and his wife H.E Afiju Daramy at the Embassy ’s Residence in Fajara over the weekend. Chairing the meeting, Deputy Ambassador Haja Saidata Sesay declared all previously formed Women Organizations dissolved and dormant as the Sierra Leone Women in the Gambia Organization come into being as one big umbrella. This she said is due to the fact that all of the Women Organizations previously formed were affected with leadership struggles and ego.

Speaking as the Sierra Leone First Lady in The Gambia, H.E. Afiju Daramy first thanked them for the support they have collectively, given to her husband since he came. She extended special thanks to Deputy Ambassador Haja Saidata Sesay and staff of the Embassy, noting that nothing would be of essence to them as founding Members, other than coming together as Women from Sierra Leone under one big family umbrella. “We all as women stand to benefit financially and morally from this Organization. I implored you all to stand firm behind each other for us all to achieve our aims and objectives, in line with our Motto” she said. H.E. Afiju Daramy, pledged her total support to the Mission and the Organization.

Speaker after speaker referred to H.E. Afiju Daramy as a strong woman among women and a supporting pillar to her husband, Embassy and Sierra Leoneans in The Gambia. They said they have been in the Gambia for years but have never seen the formation of such an Organization void of tribe, race and politics. The entire founding Members labeled the newly formed Organization, as a good initiative void of any semblance of politics and maintained that they all look up to her for direction and leadership.

In his short speech to Members, Ambassador Daramy said Women are useful in any Organization, due to their supportive roles. He cautioned them as to how they should go about electing their leaders, citing leadership qualities to take into considerations.

“I want to express my joy to all the founding Members here today and on behalf of the Mission, I promise total support at all times. May Allah bless you all” he concluded.

The meeting ended with the singing of traditional songs and dancing.
