Ebola is not only a health issue says director
The Director of Economic Division Statistic Sierra Leone, Abu Bakarr Turay has disclosed that the Ebola Virus Disease is not only a health issue, but an issue that has muzzled and crumpled the economy and the entire country’s development.
The Director made this deliberation at the Christian Health Association Sierra Leone (CHASL) conference room on October 21st this year in Freetown.
He identified Agriculture as the first sector that was hit by the outbreak which he said started by closing all weekly business transactions (lummors) across the country, adding that the closure resulted in low agricultural activities by farmers.
Mr. Turay maintained that other sectors like tourism, mining and road constructions have been put on hold which has led the loss of nearly twenty-five (25) thousand jobs in the country.
In his closing remarks, the director noted that the Ebola crisis has caused a situation of survival of the fittest and that people are only waiting to look forward to seeing what the weather brings as a means of survival.
