UNFPA donates $86,730 worth of items to statistics
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Wednesday 15th October 2014 donated several items valued at $86,730 to Statistics Sierra Leone at a ceremony held at the UNFPA headquarters on Signal Hill Road, Congo Cross, Freetown.
The 21 items include 10 Honda Ex-factory XL 125 motorcycles, 3 external hard drives-1 TB Interface, 15 scandisk 16 GB Cruzer Fit USB, 6 Dell Precision M60800 Mobile Workstation HXYSL12, 1 Backup Server: Dell Power Vault 124T, flash drives, toner cartridges, color laser jets, 1 APC AR3100 Netshelter SX 42U and 2 HP 65 2A Yellow Original Laser Jet Toner Cartridge (CF332A).
Handing over the items to the Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone, the UNFPA Country Representative, Dr. Bannet Ndyanabangi revealed that the items were ordered prior to the postponement of the National Population and Housing Census from December this year to April 2015 due to the Ebola outbreak.
He continued that the items are for Statistics Sierra Leone to adequately prepare for next year’s census and expressed optimism that Ebola would be defeated.
Receiving the items, the Statistician-General, Mohamed King-Koroma lauded UNFPA for the laudable gesture not only to the institution but its many invaluable contributions to Sierra Leone as a whole underscoring that UNFPA has been very useful to the country.
Mohamed King-Koroma continued that UNFPA is now fighting two fronts–to contain the Ebola outbreak and the conduct of a successful census and reiterated thanks and appreciation to the UN Agency.
He also promised to present the items to the Council of Statistics Sierra Leone and the Minister of Finance and Economic Development that is in charge of Statistics Sierra Leone. The ceremony was graced by senior officials of UNFPA and Statistics Sierra Leone.
