The lips of Sierra Leoneans and foreign partners in and out of the country were full of praises, admiration and adoration for President Ernest Bai Koroma’s appointed Presidential Youth Aide, Bai Mahmoud Bangura who was very visibly active in ensuring that he coordinate and monitor young people across the country to actively participate in the just concluded 3-day Ose-to-Ose Ebola Sensitization exercise. All across the country, dozens of youths were seen actively busy patrolling all corners of the country acting as Ebola Surveillance Contact Tracing Volunteers (SCTV). They were easily identified by their T-shirts with the inscription ‘SCTV’ on the front and ‘volunteer’ at the back of the T-shirt. Throughout the three days, Bai Mahmoud himself was seen walking on foot from one community to another cautioning people and advising them to beware of Ebola and avoid body contact.
According to reliable sources, the thousands of SCTVs were thoroughly trained to do community contact tracing and sensitization by Bai Mahmoud using his personal funds. Through their service to the 3-day sensitization, the health ministry and EOC was able to unearth several Ebola cases that were hidden in various communities across the country.
The presidential youth aide was also seen on national television and heard on community radio stations empowering young people to take the challenge and champion the fight against the deadly disease in the country.
In a whole, the efforts of these youth volunteers were widely appreciated and satisfied with and Sierra Leoneans were very thankful to President Koroma for appointing such a young and dynamic gentleman as the country’s Presidential Aide.
