Resident Minister and Ebola Taskforce Locked on Lockdown

The Minister and other Task Force members were literally locked in a three day tour spirit of the Eastern Region during the Three Days Sit at Home that was observed last weekend. Three Days Sit at Home led a team of members of the Kenema District Ebola Task Force on a tour in the Eastern Districts of Kenema, Kailahun and Kono to monitor the compliance of the people and to support and share experience with other Ebola Task Force in the other Districts. The delegation included the Chairman of the Kenema District Ebola Task Force Bunting Grading, Paramount Chief AL-Ameen Kanneh of Koya Chiefdom, Civil Society Chairman Augustine Sannoh, Human Right Officer Mr. Yajah, Provincial Secretary Mr. George A, Penyikie, Political Adviser to the Minister Moijue Gbetuwa (Gbosgbos), Ishmael Sesay, Mohamed K, Mansaray and other staff at the Resident Minister’s office.

The tour started on Friday 19th September, 2014 with a visit to Kailahun District as the Minister and team members were received by the Paramount Chief of Luawa Chiefdom Hon. P. C Mohamed Kailondo Banya and the Chairman of the Kailahun District Council Alex Bonapha.

The Minister and team members upon arrival at the chief’s compound witnessed a sensitization of household members of the Paramount Chief by health volunteers and later proceeded to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation in Kailahun for a radio talk show to sensitize the people on the importance of the Three Days Sit at Home in the fight against Ebola.

In the same afternoon, the Minister of State East visited the MSF Ebola treatment Centre in Kailahun to talk to the health workers on were on strike on that day to return to work. The Minister while addressing the aggrieved health workers gave them the sum of Le1 Million as his own personal help and assured them of the government commitment to fighting Ebola and maximizing their welfare. The workers in return appreciated the Minister and his team and promise to go back to work.

The second day of the sit at home witnessed the Minister taking his team to Kono where they were received by the Paramount Chief of Tankoro Chiefdom Paul Gaba Saquee , the Minister of Transport and Aviation Leonard Balogus Koroma and other members of the Kono District Ebola Task Force.

The Paramount Chief of Tankoro Chiefdom PC Saquee while give and update thank the Minister and his team for their visit and support towards the Kono District Task Force and informed about some of the measures they have taken to stop the spread of virus including quarantining twelve areas. He also informed the delegation about the need to establish a quarantine committee that will purpose handle quarantine issues.

He disclosed to the team the construction of the withholding centre in Kono estimated at Le482 million.
