Ose to Ose Ebola talk declared
As the fight against eradicating the Ebola virus has gone beyond the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the government has declared a House to House Family sensitization on Ebola campaign which means in our local parlance “Ose to Ose Ebola talk” that will commence on September, 19th, 20th and 21st this year.
Speaking to the press yesterday at the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the National Coordinator Emergency Operation Centre, Mr. Steven Gaujah maintained that trained teams will move from house to house disseminating information on Ebola virus disease and enlist family or community support and participation to the response adding that the trained teams will involve health workers, community volunteers, NGO AND CBO.
He pointed out the five objectives that will guide the exercise through which are to reach 100% of households with correct information on Ebola, increase community acceptance of Ebola affected persons especially children, to promote hand washing with soap at house hold level wherein 1.5 million bars of soap will be distributed. He continued that the exercise will also enable us to rebuild public confidence and trust in the health system and to install neighborhoods watch structures at community level.
The National Coordinator reiterated that, on the 18th September the campaign will kick off with a Presidential speech to the nation providing an overview of the Ebola situation and government response adding that the President will officially declare sit at home days from 19-21 for family reflection, prayers and education while families will be visited by campaign teams, Council Chairmen, Paramount Chiefs, and town Chiefs will replicate the Presidential speech at various levels.
He revealed that more specifically, the teams will find out family knowledge and concerns on Ebola and provide correct information. He made it clear that they will answer during the exercise any questions on Ebola and dispel rumors. He continued that they will also explain the need for avoiding contacts with body fluids of an infected persons or dead bodies. He stated that the exercise will explain what to do when family member is sick during the Ebola outbreak and the need to report early to health facilities.
In conclusion Mr. Gaujah said about 7,000 teams of trained volunteers will be involved in the house to house sensitization activity.
