Chief Sam- Sumana donates Le100M worth of Ebola Items to Eastern Region
Kenema, Sept. 3 (SLENA) – Vice President, Alhaji Chief Sam-Sumana has doled out Ebola materials worth over one hundred millions leones (Le100, 000, 000) to the people of the Eastern Region. Minister of State VP office, Harriett Turay (right) and Resident Minister Maya Kaikai on tour of facility
Speaking at the presentation ceremony which was held at the UNICEF premises in Kenema, the Minister of State at the Vice President Office, Mrs. Harriett Turay expressed on behalf of the Hon. Vice President condolences to bereaved families of doctors, nurses and all other peaceful Sierra Leonean who have lost their lives to the dreadful disease, Ebola.
She further conveyed the Vice President’s gratitude to all those who in diverse ways are participating to ensure that this virus in being put under control, stop it from spreading further and above all eradicating it in Africa and in particular Sierra Leone.
Outlining the items she said are sixty (60) Milla water tanks of 1000 and 1200 litres, over three hundred rubber buckets with plumps and rubber bowls, four (4) barrels of 45kg chlorine, four (4) barrels of 25kg chlorine, hundred (100) cartons of laundry soap, assorted disinfectant materials, temperature machines among other materials.
These materials, the Minister of State said, were to sustain the existing toxics in the fight against the virus, adding that the Milla tanks are to be used by pouring the chlorinated materials and allowed community people to fetch water to be used in their various homes for hand washing.
She said the Vice President who is unavoidably absent due to other state matters is with them in spirit and that he has pledged his support to the people of that region especially in this time of crisis as he holds them in high esteem.
She called on every Sierra Leonean not to relent until the virus is kicked out of the country.
In his thank you remarks, the Resident Minister, East, Maya Kaikai thanked the Hon. Vice President for his laudable support to the people of the Eastern region. He admonished the gathering that everyone should come on board to fight the common enemy, Ebola, noting that Ebola wanted to divide the people of this nation and that Sierra Leoneans should not give way to that division.
He assured the Vice President that the items will be used for it intended purpose and that it will reach it beneficiaries. He said that as a Resident Minister he will ensure that anyone who is caught selling the items will face the full penalty of the law.
Office of National Security (ONS) Provincial Secretary who doubles as Coordinator and Chairman of the Kenema Ebola Task Force, Joseph Bunting-Grading also expressed his gratitude to the Vice President for taking up such venture especially when the region is faced with such deadly crisis.
The Vice President’s support, he said, is an encouragement in the fight against the Ebola fight.
