LANYI Foundation dishes Le.13M to fight Ebola
In a bid to promote the fight against Ebola in the country, an indigenous Non- Governmental Civil Society Organization called LANYI Foundation Sierra Leone, last week donated the sum of Le.13 million as support to Kailahun and Kenema Districts Members of Parliament and also CARITAS and Healey Foundation. Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Foundation, Victor Ndanemor, in his opening address said the donation came as a direct respond to the clarion call of President Ernest Bai Koroma to all Sierra Leoneans and good friends of the Country to join in the fight against the spread of the deadly Ebola virus in the country.
Mr. Ndanemor further explained that Le11,165,000 was for the Members of Parliament in Kailahun and Kenema Districts whose people are prime victims of the dreadful Ebola virus whilst the Le1,835,000 was to be given to CARITAS and Healey Foundation officials for their efforts in the fight for the treatment efforts and eradication of the virus.
He told the audience that before making the donation, his organization travelled to Bo city where they had extensive consultations with senior medical personnel for better understanding of the situation and how to they could come in to prevent the spread of the Ebola disease to the ongoing efforts by the government and the international community as well as civil society groups and Parliamentarians.
He said after that consultative meeting with partners, they came to conclusion to contribute the sum of Le 13 million and commended government and the international community for their stringent interventions that is making positive gains in the country.
He concluded by clarifying that the cash donation is as token to facilitate movement and other needs for the MPs to go in their constituencies to help in the sensitization drive.
Responding, Hon. Bu-Buakie Jabbie of Constituency 008 said the donation was timely taking to account how their people has been seriously affected, noting that the effort is patriotic move which they highly appreciated.
Minority Leader Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai also of Constituency 013, Kenema District commended the officials for their kind heart and concern for their compatriots at home and assured the judicious utilization of the resource for the purpose it was provided.
Present at the ceremony are Dr. Jambai, Dr. Turay, and Dr. Bash Taqi, Hon. Ambassador Patrick Foyah, Hon. Habib Bakarr Munda and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kapuwa.
