Three officers of the Political Party Registration Commission indicted on corruption offences

The Anti-Corruption Commission has indicted in the High Court of Sierra Leone three Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) Officers: namely, Victor Hugo Kamara, Mediation Officer Kenema; Abraham John, Registrar; and Robert Paine, Mediation and Programme Manager,  for various corruption offences including Misappropriation of Public Funds contrary to section 36(1), Offering and Receiving Advantage contrary to sections 28(1) ( c ) and 28 (2)  ( c ) and Conspiracy contrary to section 128(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008.

The indictment alleges that the three PPRC Officers conspired and misappropriated various amounts of monies to the tune of Le143 million.  The said total amount of money came from the United Nations Integrated Peace-Building Office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL), ENCISS (a non-governmental organization), and funds from the PPRC Emergency Basket.

The donations from UNIPSIL and ENCISS were to undertake pre and post non-violence elections sensitization campaigns during the 2012 national elections.

The ACC wishes to reassure the general public of its continued commitment to the fight against corruption.
