SLPP brouhaha deepens – Chairman and Scribe face the boot

The unfolding problems within the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) seem to have deepened with moves by some members of the party to get rid of the National Chairman Chief Somano Kapen and Secretary General, Suliaman Banja Tejan-Sie.

According to Hon. Manso Dumbuya, the Regional Chairman West of the SLPP, the move was necessitated by the clear show of non commitment by the two to the much needed progress of the party.

He said since the last national delegates conference of the party and the ushering in of the new executive, only two meetings have been called to discuss issues relating to the progress of the party and that as a matter of fact, the chairman and the secretary general hardly visit the party secretariat to do the respective jobs they were elected for.

This, according to Hon. Manso Dumbuya, is nothing good for the party especially so when at a time like this they should be busy working on modalities to clinch power back come the next general elections.

The chairman and scribe are also accused of widening the divide with the party rather than ensuring reconciliation and oneness.

Hon. Manso Dumbuya went on to say that a resolution has been made for Dr. Prince Alex Harding to step in as acting national chairman while the deputy secretary general steps into the shoes of the substantive holder.

For their part, both Chairman Somano Kapen and Secretary General Suliaman Banja Tejan-Sie have said the move against them is illegal and that as far as they are concerned, their positions are unshakeable until the next national delegates conference of the party.

According to Chief Somano, the party remains under his full control and that he is quite aware that there are certain people within the party that are bent on sabotaging his administration.

He dismissed claims that he is getting too close to the ruling All People’s Congress for reasons not unconnected with financial benefits, stating that he has no reason to stoop down so low as to risking his hard earned reputation.
