Deputy Minister, School Drivers, and Bike Riders Union Members on Ebola prevention

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation,Hon. Ibrahim Mansary, on Friday 13th June 2014 held a sensitization meeting with members of the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union at the Kenema Youth Sport Club, and the members of the Drivers Union at their How for Do office in Kenema, on how to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus in the country.

Speaking at the meeting, the National President of the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union who doubles as the chairman, David Sesay, welcomed all and said that the Ministry thought it fit to involve them in the sensitization because they are an playing important role in the country and they are dealing with a large number of the Sierra Leone population, and therefore called on his members to pay attention to the Minister.

Delivering his sensitization message, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Ibrahim Mansary, said that the Ebola sickness is real and that the virus is a big threat  in the country and since the outbreak they have been holding inter Ministry meetings to discuss methods to move the virus out of the country.

The Minister added that their Ministry decided to call the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union and Drivers union because they are dealing with a large number of the Sierra Leone population and called on them to always protect themselves from the Ebola virus, which he said does not look at surname, religion or non-partisan.

Hon. Ibrahim Mansary reiterated since the outbreak of Ebola in the country the government of Sierra Leone has got no rest to see that the disease is taken out of the country.  The Minister added that his Ministry has put lot of things in place to stop the spread of the virus in the country among which is the stopping of public transport to Kailahun, and call on the riders and drivers to stop shaking the hands of people to avoid the transfer of the disease.

Responding, the regional treasurer of the Sierra Leone Commercial Motor Bike Riders Union eastern region, Mohamed Sheriff, said that one of the ways of transferring Ebola is through the exchange of helmets by passengers and called on the authorities to stop the use of helmets at the moment since Ebola virus can be transferred through body contact.
