14 confirmed Ebola cases and 4 deaths revealed
Freetown, May 30, 014 (SLENA) – The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has Confirmed 14 cases of Ebola and four deaths as of May 29, 2014.
Making the disclosure at the Inter-Ministerial committee on Ebola meeting held in the Health Ministry’s Conference hall in Freetown, Health and Sanitation Minister, Miatta Kargbo said out of the deaths, one died in the Kenema Hospital, one in the Kailahun community, and the two other deaths occurred in Liberia from patients who discharged themselves from hospital to reside in Liberia.
Two suspected cases at the Connaught Hospital and one suspected case at the Emergency Hospital all proved negative. Madam Miatta reiterated that as of May 29, 2014 there was no confirmed case for Western Area, and encouraged the general public not to panic or listens to rumor mongers but to go with the Ministry’s Official daily update.
She stressed the need for the Trade, Transport and Aviation, Education, Internal Affairs, Information and Communications and Local Government Ministries to intensify efforts in the fight against the Ebola disease through a collaborated massive sensitization of Traders, Bike Riders, Transport owners, Paramount Chiefs, Primary and Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions.
Madam Miatta Kargbo urged all to work on an Action Plan that would address the current situation and the challenges ahead.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industries, Mr. Alie Badara Mansaray and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Joseph Bandabla Dauda, and other representatives from the other Ministries, including the Deputy Minister of Education, reassured the Health Ministry of their commitment to undertake a joint mission to the three affected districts Kailahun, Kenema and Kono with a view to sensitizing communities as well as working towards meeting the challenges ahead.
