The Chairman Kossoh Town Base Council (KBC) Organization Mahmoud Borboh Kargbo has resigned his position on Sunday 18th May 2014, during a colorful Re-union Night Ceremony organized by the membership at Malta Street in Freetown. The ceremony which witnessed community elders, friends and members of the Council ended peacefully though with mix feelings among most of its members on the Chairman’s resignation. In his keynote speech, the Chairman informed the gathering that he funded the re-union night with support from some members of the organization to bring the membership together again after series of issues that have affected the smooth running of the organization. This he stated are mostly personal issues that have no bearing with the organization.
He notified his audience that Kossoh Town Base Council is the only Council that is community based and has no link with the government of Sierra Leone Nineteen Local Councils. Ours is a community base organization that is non political and registered with the Freetown City Council ‘he stated’. Though KBC is formed principally to bring unity and peace among youth in Kossoh Town, it has shifted its focus over the years to support community development projects in the areas of education, health and sanitation, community peace initiatives, the provision of street lights at Malta Street ; with financial and moral support of its members and through the organizing of social activities.
He called on all and sundry to continue support the leadership of the organization in actualizing the organization’s main goal of community development and membership cohesion.
Mr. Kargbo entreats his membership to forget about their petty grievances and work as a team for the benefit of their community in particular and the nation in general so that others will emulate their foot prints. Though stepping down as chairman, he assured his membership of his continued support to the organization in their community development strides.
As rumors filtered in the hall after his resignation, most people I spoke to insinuated that may be Mr. Mahmoud B. Kargbo is expecting an appointment as he is a very hard working young man among his peers and within the Civil Society and development work in Sierra Leone.
When ask why he decides to resign now, he replied by saying that he has been Chairman for three years and he should give way to somebody else to step into his shoes as he is very busy as Managing Director in PaRD-SL. He vehemently denied the assertion of him expecting an appointment from any quarters so far.
However, MB Kargbo has appointed Mr. Abdul Kamara (A1) the Vice Chairman to act as Chairman and four members in the transitional committee till elections are conducted as the KBC constitution provides. Members in the committee are; Sheborah O. Kamara- SOK (vice chairman) Cecil King (Secretary), Alfred Kamara (member)and Adama Dumbuya (member). He called on all members to support the Ag Chairman and committee to organize a free, fair and peaceful election in the next couple of weeks.
Among those present during the ceremony are Mr. Mohamed Kargbo (Tapo) who spoke on behalf of community elders reiterated the need for youth cohesiveness, Mr. Mohamed Gbenda who doubles as a friend of KBC and also as a key community and youth stakeholder admonished Councilors on the need for unity and hard work and Ibrahim Kamara (Pele) the former chairman hinged largely on the root causes of the rift among members and brought forward all female councilors to demonstrate peace and love for one another. The programme was impressively chaired by Mr. Alpheus Rogers.
