TAS Family Boost Education to 177 in Eastern Region

A Lebanese business group resident in Kenema City in the Eastern Republic of Sierra Leone T.A.S family that owns T.A.S Store has on Sunday 20th April, 2014 boosted education in the Eastern part of Sierra Leone by donating scholarship to 177 school going pupils ranging pre-school, primary school, junior and senior secondary schools from Kailahun, Segbewma and Kenema.

In his opening remarks the chairman of the occasion Victor Saa Fayombo welcomed all to the occasion, adding the day marks another historical day for the people of the eastern region and calls on other businessmen to copy the T. A. S family.

The Mayor of Kenema city council, Joseph Samba Keifala, in his statement thanked the T. A. S family for the gesture and called on the T. A. S family to continue the good things they have started.

The chairman of the Lebanese committee in Kenema, Alhaji Alie Hassan, in his statement said that the Lebanese businessmen are not only in Kenema to do business and make a profit to develop themselves but also they have been helping school going pupils and other Sierra Leoneans to build their capacity, adding that his committee members will also continue to send in their support in boosting education in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer of T.A.S Stores, Sierra Leone Amin Skaikay, said that this is not the first time their family is awarding to school going pupils but started since last year with 66 pupils and two university students within the Kenema district, but saw the need of extending this time to other districts within the eastern region; he assured parents and authorities present of continuation in awarding of such scholarship and therefore called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity given to them.

Amin Skaikay reiterated that the selection of beneficiaries was not influenced by anybody but rather the selection by him taking names the children of market women who buy from his shop, children BRU members, children of United Begun sellers, children of wheelbarrow riders and children of his shop attendances.

The Honorable Member of Parliament of Constituency 010 in the Kenema city, Hon. France Amara Kaisamba, said that he is happy for the gesture and thanked the T.A.S family for their initiative and called on other businessmen to copy from the T.A.S family.  He called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity as thousands of children are out there yearning for the same opportunity.  He admonished the parents of the beneficiaries to monitor the activities of their children always as it will only continue based of one performance.

The youth chairman of Kenema District Emmanuel Farmal thanked the T.A.S family for supporting young people in the eastern region, adding that the T.A.S family has been doing a lot in the life of young people and called on them to continue as God will reward them in return.
