Choithram Hospital endangers 2 year old child
Two year old Yatimatu Lansana Kamara who was suffering from acute stomach constipation nearly went into coma while her aunty was giving her a bath. Immediately after her aunty had finished giving her a bath, the aunty informed her elder sister to explain to their mother that Yatimatu was not well.
On suspecting the Yatimatu’s illness, she was quickly rushed to Cottage Hospital together with her mother, Madam Abeyema Kamara, were the child was scanned and subsequently referred to Choithram Memorial Hospital at Hill Station in Freetown.
On the 26th March 2014 surgical operation was done on Yatimatu by the German Doctors and on the 29th March 2014 the patient was discharged. With the registration No: 36947, date of admission: 26/03/14, date of discharge: 29/03/14 and to be dressed after five days of operation.
Two days after the operation the German doctors of Choithram Memorial Hospital went into hiding when the mother of Yatimatu and the family stormed the Hospital to explain their situation. Upon their arrival at the Cottage hospital, they were given a referring letter to the Lungi Government Hospital on the orders of Dr. Konomanyi stating that Cottage Hospital lacks the necessary drugs to be given to the kid. At this junction, the parent became perturbed and tormented as to where they could secure the said drugs since the two hospitals lack the said drug.
While Madam Abeyema was with the German Doctor who did the operation unprofessionally told the mother that even if they decide to seek medical attention outside the country, the possibility for the kid to survive is very slim.
Most of these Germans doctors flooding into the country in the name of supporting the Free Health Care for pregnant women, Lactating mothers and Children under the age of five seem not to be qualified.
Crosschecking the story with the proprietor of the Choithram Hospital, Mr. Harish made it categorically clear that his hospital is not responsible and should not carry any blame for the unprofessional surgical operation conducted by the German doctor.
He disclosed that the hospital is only responsible for providing, the bedding and the electricity in the theatre.
He further commented that he had tried to get in touch with the German doctors in question but proved futile as the doctors are always busy in the theatre. This press also managed to speak with a Indian doctor as to how they carry out surgical operations, he responded in a very crude and obnoxious manner and boasted that the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma is in his pocket.
He said he is not afraid of any press publication, but by his utterances and display of official misconduct the Indian doctor could be assessed as a mentally demented patient.
This is the same Choithram staff that leaked the secret picture of one of Sierra Leone’s late hero, Rtd Lieutenant Colonel Tom Nyuma, and the first democratically elected President, late Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah who was admitted there for long without administering proper treatment.
