DAWN OF A NEW ERA: Celebrating International Women’s Day in Grand style

In what could be described as a colourful and dramatic Saturday last weekend at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni, people from all walks of life joined the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to commemorate the International Women’s Day with an international friendly match between the national women’s team of Sierra Leone and Liberia.

According to football pundits, the match was a thriller as both sides put up dramatic performances to deny each other the much needed curtain raiser. the Sierra Leone team twice had the chance to take the lead but the agile Liberian goalie, Mammie Kamara denied them on both occasions.

Liberia Head Coach J. Kaetu Smith was full of praise for the Sierra Leone team. He expressed optimism for improvement on the Sierra Leone side due to their age.

“I’m very much impressed with the performance of my team but to be honest, the opponent proved very difficult to crack and i can see that they are moving forward. The Sierra Leone team has a very bright future and these young talents might end up being professionals; hope they get the encouragement,” the Liberia Head Coach said.

On the Sierra Leone angle, Head Coach, Abdulai Kaloga Bah rain praises on the Liberian goalie noting that they could have won the match by 3 goals, had it not been for her in-form performance.

“We did all we can to win the match but we were unlucky. We had two penalty appeals that were waved off and their goalkeeper was excellent. This is a young team with a lot of potential to succeed,” he said.
