Airtel celebrates International Women’s Day with Constituency 92
Airtel celebrated International Women’s Day with Constituency 92 in ward 326 at their head office on the 11th March. It was a unique event as Airtel celebrated with its community people.
In his welcome address, Managing Director Sudipto Chowdhury appreciated all the women as it was a pleasure being with them. This anniversary started in New York wherein they protested against women’s safety. Sudipto also stated that without women, men’s existence will not have been possible. Mr. Chowdhury also highlighted three points to make effective change;
1. It’s never too late for anyone, just take the first step with confidence.
2. You don’t have to make a big change to make a change.
3. Mistakes are meant to be made but start all over again.
Sudipto encouraged the women to be more zealous in doing things.
The Councilor for Ward 326 Madam Margaret Saidu Kargbo said that women have signed so many treaties to protect the women. Airtel will make a very big change in our constituency she stated. She pleaded that Airtel must always have their community in mind.
The Representative of the Grass Root Women Ms. Mabinty Koroma highlighted four challenges the women face in the community which are needs, interest, access and control. Women must be willing to learn which will bring motivation in the lives of other women and must face positions. Let the men bring change to the women so that change can be enforcing by changing our mind set.
In her key note address, Dr. Mrs. Majeks Walker who is the founder and first female president for the 50-50 group appreciates the Managing Director of Airtel for giving out flowers and chocolates to female staff of Airtel. In 1908, fifteen thousand (15,000) women marched on the streets of New York in protesting for their rights. In Sierra Leone cabinet, there are only two women and fourteen women parliamentarians. The United Nations declared in 1975 about the International Women’s Day. Airtel is a successful company and the only company who have ever thought of celebrating Women’s Day with their community people. Madam Walker pleaded with Airtel to partner with the 50-50 group on ongoing building project. She also pleaded with the women not to be shy and to take part in governance.
The event was climaxed by some female Airtel Staff doing fashion with Swank Couture Lavender Supplies clothing line.
