Sixteen SLPP MPs stand by minority leader

Freetown, Feb, 27 (SLENA) – The  sixteen members of parliament of  the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in parliament have expressed their total support for Dr. Bernadette Lahai her as their leader in parliament, contrary to what the twenty-six other opposition members of the party are saying against her.

Speaking at a press conference in the office of the SLPP minority leader in parliament, Hon Francis Konuwa of constituency 014 in the Kenema District reaffirmed their decision to remain firm behind Dr.  Bernadette Lahai who he referred to as the minority leader of the SLPP until the court proves otherwise.

Hon Konuwa informed journalists that the leadership of the SLPP is not doing justice to the party and that it was time to unite the party and think about 2018 when the party should work towards winning the election.

He blamed the hierarchy of the party, calling them disloyal members who are not making effort to unite the party as a family.

On his part, Hon. Stile Jengo from Moyamba district opined that the SLPP big guns do not favour Dr. Lahai as she is not in support of what he called the “straight line”, adding that Dr. Lahai  too has her right  to  choose where to belong  and support any group of her choice.

Hon. Jengo maintained that they will continue to support the minority leader no matter what it takes because all what the others are doing is malice.

Hon. Sualiho M. Koroma from Bo clarifies the issue of Hon. Rado Yokie not been in the ECOWAS parliament but Hon. Brima Kamanda and urged the SLPP big guns to come onboard and the party and stop the blame game.

In his comments, Hon Francis Kaisamba of Kenema district recalled efforts that have been made by the Secretary General of the party to resolve the impasse but it was proven that the 26 aggrieved MPs are not working in the interest of the party.

Hon. Kaisamba said Hon. Habib Munda, the caucus leader of the SLPP in the Kenema District will soon be impeached as he does not seem to go along with aims and aspirations of the Kenema people.
