SL High Commission set facts on Eddie Turay and APC

The Public Information Unit would like to make the following clarifications for the benefit of the general public:

Firstly, contrary to the newspaper report, the High Commission would like to inform the general public that the All People’s Congress United Kingdom/Northern Ireland Branch did not visit the Deputy High Commissioner Tamba Mansa Ngebah to congratulate him on his appointment.

Rather, the APC branch visited Mr. Ngebah at his North West London residence to sympathise with him since he has been out of the office on sick leave for the past three months.

The Deputy High Commissioner wants to make it categorically clear that the visit of the APC UK/Northern Ireland Branch was purely personal (not official) and does not necessarily require the presence of the High Commissioner Hon. Edward Mohamed Turay.

The High Commission is extremely disappointed that the High Commissioner has to be a target in the report for his absence during the visit when in fact no other staff member of the High Commission was there.

It is also untrue that the High Commissioner has been marginalising his deputy as claimed by the newspaper.

The High Commission considers this as a deliberate attempt to sow seeds of discord between the High Commissioner and his deputy.

However, the High Commissioner has always been in constant consultation with his deputy on official matters.

In his remarks, the Deputy High Commissioner said: “I am disappointed that people within our midst are trying to undermine the good relationship between myself and the High Commissioner,” Ngebah said.

The Deputy High Commissioner said he has a very good, cordial and friendly relationship with the High Commissioner even before their respective appointment.

“We are a good team working together in the best interest of the government and people of Sierra Leone,” Ngebah said.

Head of Chancery Florence Bangali has also disassociated herself from the publication.

The High Commission therefore calls on the media to cross-check their facts before publication on matters relating to the Sierra Leone High Commission United Kingdom/Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, members of the All People’s Congress United Kingdom/Northern Ireland Branch over the weekend paid a courtesy call on the High Commissioner at his residence as a show of support following his appointment.

Led by the Branch’s Chairlady Kumba Momoh, the group pledged what they described as one hundred percent support for the High Commissioner and warned against any attempt to undermine his authority in his new appointment.

Also at the meeting was the Deputy High Commissioner who paid glowing tribute to the High Commissioner.

He described him as a man of substance and pledged his continued support at all times.
