Diplomats Discuss Family Matters in Denmark
In what was believed to be a tête-à-tête family get-together, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, also accredited to eight other countries including Denmark, met with Sierra Leoneans based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Alongside two of his diplomatic staff – Information Attaché Sorie Sudan Sesay and Finance Attaché John Ellie, Edward Mohamed Turay engaged the group of Sierra Leoneans in a question and answer session, after delivering a comprehensive package on government’s achievements so far.
“There is massive development taking place in Sierra Leone at the moment – the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma has been marching words with actions in line with his electioneering promises,” Turay informed his audience amidst loud applause.
From power generation in Freetown and the provinces, to food security and road infrastructure as well as free medical facilities for pregnant women, children and lactating mothers, the High Commissioner reported strides made by the government in these areas while calling on Sierra Leoneans to return home and help rebuild their country.
President of the Sierra Leone Danish Society Foday Sankoh thanked the High Commissioner for sparing some of his time to address them about developments in Sierra Leone.
Sankoh disclosed that about 500 Sierra Leoneans are living in Denmark and called for the mission to turn a little bit of attention to them in Denmark so that some of their concerns and constraints would be addressed.
Secretary General of the association said about ninety percent of them live in Greater Copenhagen ad give a brief background to their organisation.
He said they formed the organisation to strengthen unity among themselves and that they are non-political.
A group of Sierra Leonean ladies, who identified themselves as youths, also graced the ceremony and promised to add flavour to the celebrations in London marking Sierra Leone’s 50th Golden Jubilee Independence celebration.
Gifts were presented by the organisation to the visiting diplomats.
