Friends Veterans wins Unity Trophy

Friends Veterans FC on Sunday, January 5, beat Wilberforce Veterans FC 5-2 at the Football Academy, Kingtom to lift the golden Veterans Unite trophy.

Ex-Old Edwardians Midfielder, Amidu Karim scored a brace in the first half and Wilberforce own goal made it 2-0.

Captain Umaru Deen Sesay Jr. scored a classical goal for Wilberforce Veterans before the break.

The unstoppable Wilberforce Striker, Captain Umaru Deen Sesay Jr. scored a brace early second half to give life to his colleagues.

Deputy Technical Director of the Sierra Leone Football association (SLFA), John Keister, made it 4-2 in mid second half to revive their chances of winning the trophy.

Chernoh Mansaray made it 5-2 from an easy pass to wrap up the match.

In the handing over ceremony, the longest serving Leone Stars Captain, Chairman Umaru Deen Sesay, stated that the sponsor of the gala, Mohamed Sasso, has done a wonderful thing to unite footballers in the country.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Chernoh Maju Bah, said the gala was unique and it has made it possible for his Brookfields Veterans players to play against the likes of Mohamed Kallon and Junior Tumbu.

The SLFA Vice President, Brima Mazola Kamara, hailed Mohamed Sasso for his untiring efforts to unite the football family.

Football stakeholder, Rodney Michael, appealed to all football legends to be united and said he hoped those in the Diaspora will emulate the selflessness of Mohamed Sasso.

The sponsor and peace broker, Mohamed Sasso, from the United States of America, thanked all the stakeholders who made the two day event a huge success. He urged his colleagues to be always united as one family and promised to organise such matches annually.

Other dignitaries present at the grand finale were SLFA Technical Director, John Jebbor Sherrington, various Premiership Coaches and key stakeholders.

Key players to win the trophy for Friends Veterans FC were Osaio Marah, Jeffrey Kabia and Coach Puzzy, Amidu Karim, Mohamed Kallon, Junior Tumbu, Chernor Mansaray, Mustapha Sama, Francis Zappa Koroma, Alphajor Bah, Kemokai Kallon, Musa Kallon, Mohamed Mansaray, John Keister, Sidique Mansaray and Kaybaylie.

2.)   Runner-up- Wilberforce Veterans FC
3.)   Third place winner-East-End Veterans FC
4.)   Fourth place winner-Brookfields Veterans FC
5.)   Best  Player-Captain Umaru Deen Sesay Jr. (Wilberforce)
6.)   Best Goal Keeper- Yusuf Bangura (Brookfields FC)
7.)   Goal King- Amidu Karim (4) (Friends Veterans)
8.)   Best Defender- Rashid Sullay (East End Veterans)
