NRA Sacks 80 Workers

According to sources within the NRA, the sacked workers are mostly temporary staff from Customs, Income Tax, Immigration, Birth and Deaths and other revenue generating institutions, though some of these workers have worked in key areas.

No reason was revealed for the termination of the services of the workers, include some who have taken over two years in the authority and have been responsible for some positive changes that have occurred at NRA.

The decision to lay off this large number at a time when government is supposed to create more jobs for especially young graduates is reported to have been a very long fight between some senior NRA officials and board members who see nothing wrong for recommending it.

This has cause a lot of acrimony in the institution especially when most of the hard work was done by the junior workers,” the source revealed. Many have blamed the Acting Commissioner General, Madam Kala Kamara to have yielded easily to the board’s dictatorial decision without resisting it as unpatriotic.

“We have been unfairly terminated after being used for such a long time,” said one of the terminated workers. The board’s recommendation to sack especially junior workers at a time there is confusion at the institution has described by many as an unthinkable act aimed at creating unemployment. But some of the workers have pointed out that the termination is an illegal act which was not done in conformity with labour laws, and called on the authorities concerned to reverse it.

Meanwhile, accusations of unfair connections have started been made, especially the board being accused of a biased method in the whole process.

“Uptill now, some senior NRA workers are not happy over the board’s decision. Many outsiders are of the opinion that the board members have behaved irresponsibly, an act of naked corrupting and syndicate in order to replace the sacked workers with their relatives,” one of the workers terminated lamented.
