President Bio Appoints Lawyer Kallon As NRA Board Member

Lawyer Jusu Kallon (in photo) has been appointed by President Julius Maada Bio as a Board Member of the National Revenue Authority (NRA).

The National Revenue Authority was established on 13th September 2002 through an Act of Parliament, Act No-11 of 2002. Prior to the establishment of the NRA, government revenue collection was fragmented and undertaken by the then Customs and Excise Department, Income Tax Department, Government Gold and Diamond Office and several other Ministries Department and Agencies.

The NRA is charged with the responsibility of assessing and collecting domestic taxes, customs duties and other revenues specified by law, as well as administering and enforcing laws relating to these revenues.

As a Board member, Jusu Kallon will be coming with his razor sharp experiences to support the Chairman of the Board-Lawyer Tuma Jabbie, to set targets and standards including quality and operational output measures for revenue collection. As a Board, part of their mandates is to determine the grading, remuneration, recruitment, promotion and training of staff.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the Authority and subject to the NRA Act, controls and supervises the Authority.

Born in Kenema, Jusu Kallon attended the Islamic Secondary School where he became a  Senior Prefect.

He was among the first crop of WASSCE students (2000), and did extremely well by topping the Eastern Region which later catapulted him to gain enrollment at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He graduated with a B.A. Degree.

In his quest to satisfy his insatiable academic desire, he later sought admission to study law. He graduated with an LLB Honours and BL from Fourah Bay College. He also gained admission at the Njala University where he obtained Masters in Development.

Lawyer Kallon was one of first batch of Students to read and be awarded Proficiency Certificate in Procurement at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) in 2008.

His love for his home district of Kenema is top notch.

He had served as Secretary General for Kenema District Students Association (KenDSA) and Secretary General for the Law Society, Fourah Bay College. He is the current interim Chairman, Young Professionals from Kenema – a body comprising young and vibrant brothers and sisters from different walks of life with the aim of giving back to their District.

As a respected personality amongst his colleague lawyers both young and old, Lawyer Kallon continues to be a social and political commentator with no mean feat. He can always put his thoughts out there (especially on social media) on everything of national interest. He was fond of writing critical articles against the then President Ernest Koroma most notably “President Ernest Bai Koroma’s Independence Day Speech  – My take “(2017) where,  he rubbished the erstwhile President’s ten years in governance bringing out issues (now) so succinctly captured by the Government Transition Team (GTT)  Report.

He is a typical Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) frontliner. His love and dedication to the SLPP is known by all. He is one of those few lawyers you will see running across the country to represent the SLPP and its supporters.

His belief in President Julius Maada Bio’s leadership is unwavering. He is described as a true Paopa Soldier.
